What We Typically Recommend

FORMAT

6×9 glossy postcard — large enough to feature event details, an attention-grabbing image, and service times clearly. Stands out in a household mailbox

TARGETING

Neighborhood saturation — every household within a defined radius of your church. Most new visitors come from within 3–5 miles. Saturation ensures no neighbor is skipped.

FREQUENCY

Event-driven or monthly — start campaign planning and postcard design 6–8 weeks before your desired mail date for Easter, Christmas Eve, and VBS. Churches with active outreach goals benefit from a monthly presence campaign between major events.

PRICING

All-inclusive: design, mailing list, print, addressing, and postage. See full pricing below.

Why This Plan

One New Family More Than Covers the Campaign. Everything After That Is Pure Upside.

A family that visits and joins your congregation contributes $1,500–$3,000+ per year in regular giving — and typically stays for years, often bringing others. A 2,000-piece neighborhood mailing at $1,048 breaks even with a single new family who finds their church home. Most churches mailing consistently report new visitors from each campaign. The math on postcard outreach is straightforward when you think long-term about community impact and giving.

Neighborhood saturation is the right approach for churches because community reach is the goal. You're not filtering by income or demographics — every household within a few miles of your building is a potential visitor for the right event. A well-timed Easter or Christmas invitation postcard arrives when families are most open to visiting a new church. Monthly presence campaigns keep your name in the neighborhood year-round so that when someone is ready to explore faith, your church is already familiar.

One Family Covers the Campaign
A family that joins your congregation contributes $1,500–$3,000+/year in regular giving. Even a single new family from one mailing pays for many months of outreach.
Event Timing Is Everything

Easter and Christmas are the highest-attendance opportunities in the church calendar. Start planning 6–8 weeks before your mail date so your postcard arrives while families are actively looking for a place to celebrate.

Your Congregation Lives Nearby

Studies consistently show that most church visitors come from within 3–5 miles. Saturation mailing reaches every household in that radius — the most likely pool of future members.

One Visitor Becomes Many

Families refer friends and neighbors. A first-time visitor who finds a church home brings their social network. A postcard that lands in the right mailbox at the right moment sets that chain in motion.

Brownwood Church
Cactus Mailing has been excellent in helping us send out mailers for our church. We have had great responses to our mass mailers. Our very first mailer was part of helping us see over 100 people at our first service. They also helped us keep costs down by helping us get non-profit postage. I highly recommend them for any mailers.

We've been using Cactus Mailing for several years to help get the word out about our church, and the results have been great. Jill, our rep, is always helpful, professional, and easy to work with. Thanks to their direct mail campaigns, we've consistently seen new families visit our church after moving into the neighborhood. It's made a real difference in helping us grow and stay connected to our local community. Highly recommend!

Church Postcard FAQs

Most churches start with 1,000–2,000 postcards per mailing. A 1,000-piece campaign is ideal for a smaller congregation covering a tight neighborhood radius — enough to reach the streets immediately surrounding your building. A 2,000-piece campaign extends your reach to a broader 3–5 mile radius, which is the distance most new visitors are willing to travel to find a church. If you're a growing church in a dense suburb or a multi-campus congregation covering a full city, 3,000+ pieces makes sense. We'll pull your zip codes, show you exactly how many addresses fall in your target radius, and recommend a quantity before you commit to anything.

Start campaign planning and postcard design 6–8 weeks before your desired mail date — this allows time for design approval, print production, and postal processing, so your postcard arrives in mailboxes with enough lead time for households to plan. For Easter, that means starting in late January or early February and mailing in mid-to-late February. For Christmas Eve services, begin the process in early-to-mid October and mail in November. VBS campaigns should be in mailboxes by April or May for summer programming, so plan accordingly in March. Many churches mail twice for their biggest events — a "save the date" piece hitting mailboxes six weeks before the event and a reminder with service details two weeks before. If your budget supports it, the two-touch approach consistently drives higher attendance than a single mailing.
Cactus Mailing's church campaigns are all-inclusive — custom design, neighborhood mailing list, printing, addressing, and postage in one price. Campaigns start at $607 for 1,000 postcards ($0.61/piece), $1,048 for 2,000 ($0.52/piece), and $1,457 for 3,000 ($0.49/piece). There's no setup fee and no design fee. The initial commitment is 3 mailings, then you continue as needed — great for churches mailing for specific events. Adding addressable geofencing — digital ads that follow the same households to their phones and computers — starts at $260 per mailing on top of your postcard budget. If your church qualifies for non-profit postage rates, we can factor those savings into your quote as well.
Neighborhood saturation — every address within a radius of your church building. Church outreach works best when it's geographically broad rather than demographically filtered. You don't need to target by income, age, or household type. Your message is for everyone in the neighborhood, and saturation ensures no household gets skipped. This also gives you the lowest per-piece cost of any list type we offer. We build the list from carrier routes that cover your target area, map them out visually, and show you exactly what you're getting before you approve anything.
It depends on your outreach goals. Event-only mailing — 2–4 times per year around Easter, Christmas, VBS, and fall kickoff — is the right strategy for most congregations. You get strong ROI on the mailings that matter most without overextending your outreach budget. Churches with active growth goals — new building, new campus, a community they're specifically trying to reach — benefit from a monthly presence campaign that keeps their name in the neighborhood year-round. When someone new moves into the area or decides they want to try a church, your name is already familiar. We'll talk through your goals on the call and recommend the cadence that makes sense for your congregation.
EDDM Retail is entirely self-serve — and more work than most churches expect. Your staff picks the carrier routes, gets the postcards printed and shipped to you, creates facing slips for each bundle, sorts and bands the mail themselves, and then drives everything to one or more post offices for drop-off. When volunteer or staff time is factored in, the "cheap" postage rate stops looking attractive. Our full-service saturation mailing costs a little more than EDDM Retail — but we handle everything: custom design, neighborhood list, print, addressing, bundling, and delivery to the postal facility. Your team doesn't touch a thing. And compared to full-service EDDM providers, our church campaigns typically come in at a lower total cost. Call us and we'll walk you through what each option actually costs for your target area.
