Putting Holiday Cheer into Your Direct Mail Marketing Campaign

The holidays are a wondrous time of year, filled with joy, togetherness, and a whole lot of gift shopping. Because the holidays are a very busy retail season, direct mail marketing companies can capitalize on this time of year by running specialized marketing campaigns centered around the season and their product or service. There are a number of ways this can be done.

Tell Potential Customers What a Great Gift Your Product or Service Would Make

This direct mail advertising strategy is the most obvious and the first thing that pops into many marketers’ minds. However, it’s a strategy that’s frequently misused. When getting across how great of a gift what you’re selling would make, don’t use language that is too “salesy,” use a conversational tone that puts the reader at ease. Mention the benefits of getting what you’re selling as a gift, but don’t say anything about your product or service right away. You have to lead the reader into your advertisement.

Once you have done this, then you advertise your product. When you reach this part of the advertisement, don’t start sounding like you want to sell the potential customer something, keep the tone conversational.

Don’t Mention a Specific Holiday

People celebrate the holiday season in many different ways. Centering your advertisement around a certain holiday might offend someone that celebrates a different holiday.

Make Your Direct Marketing Brochure or Postcard Look Like it’s From a Friend

Having an advertisement that looks like a holiday card from a friend or relative is an excellent strategy, because it helps the potential customer associate the advertisement with happy thoughts of friends or family. This, in turn, helps them warm up to your advertisement a lot more than they would to a normal sales letter.

Have “Warm” Pictures on your Letter

Pictures of a fire in a hearth, someone snuggled in a nice, thick, warm coat, and other pictures like this conjure up warm feelings in an ad reader, especially if the world around them is cold. This helps open the reader up to your advertisement.

These are just a few things you can do to help put a nice holiday spin on your direct mail campaign, or even internet marketing, to help increase sales.
